The resultant internal couple is called the bending moment while the resultant internal force is called the shear force (if it is transverse to the plane of element) or the normal force (if it is along the plane of the element)
Calculate BM: M = Fr (Perpendicular to the force) Bending moment is a torque applied to each side of the beam if it was cut in two – anywhere along its length
Shear and bending moment diagrams are analytical tools used in conjunction with structural analysis to help perform structural design by determining the value of shear force and bending moment at a given point of a structural element such as a beam.
